Marketing, Distribution & Exhibition

Film promotion is the practice of promotion specifically in the film industry. Sometimes called the press junket or film junket, film promotion generally includes press releases, advertising campaigns, merchandising and media, and interviews with the key people involved with the making of the film, like actors and directors. As with all business it is an important part of any release because of the inherent high financial risk; film studios will invest in expensive marketing campaigns to maximize revenue early in the release cycle. Marketing budgets tend to equal about half the production budget. Publicity is generally handled by the distributor and exhibitors.

Marketing in relation to our production - Our marketing tools will be our creations, our teaser trailer, film poster, and magazine cover advertising our film. All of our marketing products promote our film as they are advertising campaigns for our film. If we were to actually produce the film, we would also use other marketing devices such as social networking pages, interviews with cast and directors on television and radio stations, a TV advert and website banners as well as our already produced magazine cover, poster and teaser trailer. All this marketing of our film would aid our success and popularity when it hits the cinemas.

Growth of the internet has lead to a new form of marketing. Viral marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth in the message's exposure and influence. Such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, to millions. Off the Internet, viral marketing has been referred to as "word-of-mouth," "creating a buzz," "leveraging the media," or "network marketing."
